During your placement you will have the opportunity for professional supervision over the course of your placement.

Your time with a peer mentor may look like the following:

  • Check-ins: Structured meetings or informal conversations to discuss progress, challenges, and goals.
  • Guidance and advice: Sharing knowledge on navigating specific challenges, such as managing workload or adjusting to new environments.
  • Emotional support: Offering encouragement, understanding, and empathy, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Skill development: Helping you enhance your professional, academic, or personal skills through sharing experiences.

Research shows that peer mentoring programs can enhance social integration, improve self-confidence, and foster a sense of belonging for both mentors and mentees (Dennis, 2003; Crisp & Cruz, 2009). It is also beneficial for building leadership skills in mentors and creating a more supportive community (Smith et al., 2010).
